Placement in mainstream schools
In Camden we aim for inclusive education. This means we support many children with learning difficulties to attend their local mainstream school and learn with their peers.
To do this, we provide Camden schools with the budget to support children with a range learning difficulties and disabilities.
We make sure that:
- all teachers and support staff are trained with the knowledge and skills to support children with specific needs
- schools can access specialist advice and support services
- children who need it will receive help from specially trained teachers, provided by Camden’s Primary Learning Support Service
- children with reading and spelling difficulties are supported by programmes such as ‘Soundwaves’ (provided by Camden’s Educational Psychology Service)

Special school provision
Sometimes children with more complex needs benefit from going to one of Camden’s schools for learning and/or physical disabilities. In certain cases, we can also look for educational options in other boroughs.
