Our Community Investment Programme’s (CIP) annual report is out now.
It sets out our achievements for 2022/23, including the latest project milestones that are bringing affordable homes and community facilities to residents across Camden.
The report highlights our successes and bold ambitions to build 4,850 homes, as part of a £2.3billion investment into Camden’s communities.
We’re making great progress on our house-building targets and we’ve reached key milestones on many developments, including at Abbey where a new Health Centre and Community Centre have recently opened to provide new services to residents.
Building new homes
We’ve built 1,290 homes in total since the programme started in 2010, including 618 council homes and 65 Camden Living, intermediate rent homes.
The homes we’ve built have supported over 1,500 people into new, bigger, safer and warmer homes, moved 450 children and their families out of overcrowded housing, and 650 children are now living in new council homes.
We’re also supporting our borough’s most vulnerable by building temporary accommodation for homeless families, single homeless people, people with complex and multiple needs, and people with social care needs.
Looking ahead to the future
We are starting building work at Chester Road and Camden Road hostels to provide 89 temporary homes for vulnerable residents. We’re building new council homes on the Tybalds estate, and in Central Somers Town.
Moreover, we’re close to completion of the Highgate Newtown Community Centre, and new homes at the Maitland Park estate. Once these projects complete we will have built almost 1,500 homes in total through CIP.
We will begin construction of 139 homes in the final phase of the Abbey regeneration, which will see the Council continuing to deliver homes to the borough.
These achievements are a reminder of the huge impact we can make through the Community Investment Programme, contributing towards our We Make Camden ambitions that ‘Everyone should have a place to call home in Camden’.
