The Community Investment Programme’s Maitland Park Estate was commended for its great architecture by the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA), picking up an award at the RIBA London Awards on Tuesday, 13 May.
Delivered through the Community Investment Programme, Maitland Park delivered 119 modern and energy-efficient homes, including 52 council homes.
These new buildings replaced a poorly designed and ageing block and provided new public green space on the estate.
Judges praised the community-focused approach to delivering much-needed new, environmentally responsible homes that positively impact the lives of residents and neighbours.
For example, the estate has provided homes to residents who were living in overcrowded, poorly insulated homes in the nearby West Kentish Town Estate.
One of these residents, Mrs Bonayon, said: “I’m so grateful that Camden has provided new homes for families who have been living in overcrowded conditions for a very long time.
“My family and I love the modern design, ample space, and peaceful ambience in our new home. This is a new beginning for us all. Thanks to all those who made this possible.”
Maitland Park Estate will now go on to compete in the RIBA National Awards later this year.
