And the award goes to… the Agar Grove estate! - Camden wins a Housing Design Award 2022 - CIP

The Agar Grove estate has won a Housing Design Award 2022 in recognition of the quality homes we're building. 

We received the GLA award for phases 1a and 1b of the regeneration, which has taken an innovative approach to designing the homes our residents need. 

Cllr Danny Beales, Cabinet Member for Investing in Communities, Culture and an Inclusive Economy, said:

“These awards were set up to drive quality social-house building in post-war Britain. We’re building the first new council homes in a generation, helping to address the most significant challenges we’re facing today."

The award recognised the energy efficiency of the new homes, including how the estate is on track to be the largest Passivhaus in the country. These homes meet high-environmental standards, to help combat climate change, and also help residents with tackling fuel poverty at a time of rising energy bills. 

Councillor Beales added: "By building energy-saving homes we’re helping residents with rising fuel bills and the cost of living crisis."

The Housing Design Awards 2022 also highlighted how the estate redevelopment is creating green spaces, pedestrian routes and cycle access for local residents, as well as commending the quality and size of the homes. This recognises our commitment to building estate spaces and homes that help residents with overcrowding and provide space for families to live and grow. 

Councillor Beales added: "We're building the homes our communities need to live, play and grow. This award recognises how we can improve residents' lives through well-designed regeneration projects."

We received the award from Tom Copley, the Mayor of London’s Deputy Mayor for Housing and Residential Development. He said: 

"The award goes to the first four blocks in an estate regeneration programme led by a London council that will provide the country's largest Passivhaus scheme."

Tom Copley added: "In the recent past the delivery of new homes in London have taken on two new challenges, both critical. First, what we are building must be able to cope with climate change. Second, fuel poverty is the biggest issue facing Londoners so this winner is so timely."

The estate is the largest Passivhaus in the UK, meaning it will help cut carbon emissions and tackle climate change. We’re building 205 council homes at Agar Grove under our Community Investment Programme, which is investing over £1billion into our communities.
