Highgate Newtown - CIP
Highgate Newtown
- Ward: Highgate
- Key Features: 36 new family-sized affordable homes and a large multi-use community centre
The redevelopment within Highgate Newtown has delivered 36 new council homes. The homes were originally intended for private sale, however with funding from central government, we converted these homes to provide safe-haven housing for Afghan families who had been living in bridging hotels and in need of more permanent accommodation. Helping to grow our council housing stock and meet our commitment as a borough of sanctuary.
We worked in partnership with Highgate Newtown Community Partners to design a state-of-the-art community centre complete with a large flexible-use sports hall, restaurant area, and lounge which will offer a versatile range of services including a hairdresser, laundrette, and cookery school. The centre aims to make a real impact on the local community, providing a place where people can get together and have access to vital services and amenities.
Highgate Newtown Community Centre is due to open to the public in early 2025.
