What CIP will deliver for Camden

Homes

We will build 3,050 new homes.

These include:

  • 650 replacement council rented homes

We are replacing a number of our council homes to ensure that our tenants live in good quality accommodation, often building larger replacement new homes to help reduce overcrowding.

  • 450 new council rented homes

This is the first time we have been able to build new council homes for rent for nearly two decades. These new homes are being offered to those on the Council's housing register.

  • 300 new homes for Camden Living rent and shared ownership

We're building new genuinely affordable homes, including homes for Camden Living rent - for residents who can’t afford market rent, but are ineligible for social housing.

  • 1,650 new homes for sale

We’re building homes for sale to private buyers and making sure we market them to local people first. Every pound of income generated through sales is reinvested back into Camden.

Better Homes programme

CIP helps to fund the Council’s Better Homes programme which has helped pay for internal and external works to more than 22,500 homes.

Schools

  • £117 million is being re-invested into 48 schools and children’s centres
  • 963 new school places will be created. This includes:
  • Up to 420 much needed primary school places delivered by CIP funding in the north-west of Camden and a further 543 through council projects with investments from other sources

Community

The CIP is investing in our communities and places to ensure they have a bright future.

  • We're building and refurbishing 9,000m2 of improved community facilities and space across Camden, the equivalent of 35 tennis courts. This includes community spaces such as St Pancras Community Centre

Employment, training and apprenticeships

We are targeting employment and apprenticeship opportunities at Camden residents through the CIP:

  • We have secured 193 apprenticeship opportunities and 141 work experience opportunities on sites in Camden such as those offered at Agar Grove, Plender Street, Bacton Low Rise and Maiden Lane
  • Nearly 4,500 construction jobs will be created through the CIP
  • We have delivered 620m2 of low cost employment space at Maiden Lane which will be run by Tileyard Studios and deliver:
    - Shared workplace and meeting facilities for start-ups, SMEs and a package of workshops, talks and networking opportunities.
    - Creative training opportunities for individuals including a suite of affordable short courses, workshops and events.
  • We are delivering new and improved employment space and increased floor space on CIP sites
